Audrey tatou
I must have been 12 or around thirteen years old boy when I first saw her, it was a movie called “Amelie”.
I didn’t understand anything about the movie obviously, but I liked her. It was for sure a crush.
You know right now I am living in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal which is far better than my birthplace where I used to live back when I watched this movie. People are really very conservative and narrow minded there, and even watching English movies was almost a criminal offence, just like Taliban regime.
They all watch some local movies and every local movie have same story still now. There used to be a poor guy and a proud rich girl with bad attitude problem, guy break her attitude making her fall in love with him immediately( I never understand how can someone fall in love with somebody who humiliates them). And most of all of sudden people lead actors will start dancing behind the trees for no reason; in every movie like every one of them were musicals. Even if I was a kid, I don’t know how, when I myself was living between them, it started boring me to death and even if I was a kid I truly understand that those movies were promoting sexism and defining women only as an object and baby producing machines. Although, I haven’t heard the word sexism back then.
Later, I would watch an old English movie channel but not with my parents around, although chances of explicit or double meaning scenes were zero on them and I have seen worst double meaning jokes in local movies but, that was ok. Watching an English movie was like watching porno, a kind of taboo, there.
I remembered first time when I hired a Jackie chain’s movie (pirated one of course, original DVD is still not available there) it causes a big dispute in my house. My elder cousin tried to explain me that I could do anything and watch anything I like when I will grow up.(like I am doing now!)
I tried to tell them it was a Jackie chain movie especially for kids but Nah.
My mum watched it along with me and then I was finally allowed to watch them.
Although I have trouble understanding the pronunciation of movies, I would watch by their subtitles (if they have one). I have watched “amelie” by its subtitle even I didn’t get anything in my young head but what was unique for me was a female lead, a different and strange story.
But if I say that watched whole movie just because of that will be a very unfair statement. How cannot I tell the cuteness and the charm and smile of the beautiful Audrey tatou made me watch it.
I have never seen a movie before where women were meant to be person and have some characteristics all movies I have seen before depict them just as an object similar to mu society’s thinking.
Later I watched many Hollywood movies like harry porter series, spider man and other movies made for kids, but now I have started to realize how Hollywood too is using very similar tactics in every movie they make. Bigger effects, great animation, fancy action scene, international scenery but the repetition of same some few good old stories or romantic comedy movies where they put some very funny but stolen incidents and done. They are just repeating the same stuffs again and again. I mean may be Japanese and Thai movies don’t have as great effect as Hollywood have but their movie and new story will scare hell out of you and may be European movies don’t have the name you often heard but their original concept, romance and crime thrillers will excites to the edge of your seat.
Last time when I again watched Audrey tatou it was like meeting your first love after years. She still poses same cuteness and charm and acted beautifully even when her role was bit grayish.
I mean Hollywood has just become something like my local movie industry, (not independent movies) but mainstream Hollywood has been only focusing on money making strategies.
Last I saw a Swedish movie called “A girl with dragon tattoo”, I have heard Hollywood is going to make remake out of it and that’s my real point, I mean there are lots of great foreign movies and lots of them have been remade in English, what I am trying to understand is why people don’t watch original versions? Why does they didn’t make their way to mainstream international theatres even when they are good and qualitative movies?
The reason here is similar to my locality. People are prejudiced about watching movies which verbal language they can’t get or are scared trying new things or didn’t trust new things.
Which obviously promote monopoly and stupidity of mainstream cinema where most of the movie they are making are just unwatchable and merely original.
I will love to see movies topping world charts due to their story, their creativity and their subject not because the nations they came from and language there are made in.
May be one day that will happen only if world population became more broad minded, less local and more global, and we will have star from all over the world and see movies from all over the world.
Yes, I still have crush on Audrey tatou and I have known her because I know no boundary and even when I had difficulty in understanding English I watched a French movie on its subtitle and I am so glad that I did that.
You may have not understand the single thing I said but those things have changed my life forever and reason I didn’t follow my people is the reason I am more modern and I believe in freedom, anti sexism and anti racism unlike my people, and reason I am different will be the global cinema.
AND reason I started watching world movies is
